Privacy Policy — Contour

Last updated: 7th August 2026

Contour ("the app") overlays speed, elevation, gradient, heart rate, and cadence data from a cycling computer's FIT file onto your own video footage. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it's used, and what — if anything — leaves your device.

The short version: Contour processes everything entirely on your phone. Your FIT files and videos are never uploaded to us, to any server we operate, or to any third party for processing. We do not have a backend, and we cannot see your rides, your location history, or your footage.

What the app accesses

When you use Contour, you choose the specific files it works with via your device's own file picker. The app accesses:

The app only accesses files you explicitly pick. It does not scan, browse, or access any other files, folders, or media on your device.

How this data is used

Contour reads the FIT file and video entirely on your device to generate a new video file with the overlay burned in. This processing happens locally using your phone's own hardware — no data from your FIT file or video is transmitted anywhere as part of this process.

The finished video is saved to the app's private storage area on your device. It stays there until you view it, share it (which you initiate and control, e.g. via WhatsApp, email, or any other app you choose from your device's share menu), or delete it yourself.

Third-party services

Contour uses Google AdMob to display advertisements, which support the free version of the app. AdMob may collect device identifiers (such as your advertising ID) and other information to serve and measure ads, in accordance with Google's own Privacy Policy. This data collection is handled by Google, not by us, and is separate from your FIT and video files, which AdMob never has access to.

If you purchase the ad-free version, payment is processed entirely by Google Play. We do not receive or store your payment details — see Google Play's privacy policy for how they handle that.

Data we do not collect

Data retention and deletion

All files the app works with, and everything it produces, remain on your device under your control. Uninstalling the app removes its private storage, including any rendered videos still saved there. Your original FIT and video files, stored elsewhere on your device, are unaffected by installing or uninstalling Contour.

Children's privacy

Contour is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13 (or the relevant minimum age in your region). We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — for example, if a future version of the app adds new functionality that changes how data is handled — this page will be updated, and the "Last updated" date above will reflect that.
